I would like to share our experience that we had with the Ratner & Pinchman Law Firm. In March of 2017 my mother who is 94 and has Alzheimer’s fell and broke her hip. This required a hip replacement. The hospital informed us that she would have 20 days that Medicare would cover for her rehabilitation. Well, after two weeks the nursing facility told us that we would have to find somewhere else for my mother, and that she would have to be out of their facility by the end of the week.

My wife was given a reference to call Steve Ratner who specializes in Medi-Cal, etc. She called them in the morning and was told that he would meet with us the very next morning (not next month…but the next morning). We took all of our files and met with Steve. He looked them over and before we left his office, he prepared a fax to the nursing facility telling them that my mother would not be leaving the facility.

Steve turned our case over to Maya Pinchman. Maya went over the entire process with us step-by-step, every “i” dotted and every “t” crossed. All of this takes time so you have to be patient. Our communication over the next two months with Maya went very well. Not only did we have to be patient with the process, but also Maya was very patient with us, with all of our questions along the way.

If you think you are going to be able to navigate these difficult waters on your own, you’re kidding yourself. The “system” is not on your side in these matters, and you need someone with the experience and knowledge in the law and to know the questions to be asked, who to contact and when to do it.

If you want to protect your estate or that of a loved one I cannot say enough about Maya Pinchman. In the final analysis it took a total of 51 pages of documentation that went to Medi-Cal with a detailed explanation of the “whys & wherefores”.

The Ratner & Pinchman firm was highly recommended by a person knowledgeable about the Medi-Cal qualification process. Mrs. Maya Pinchman agreed to meet with my daughter and me in her office on short notice (within three hours after speaking on the telephone). From the very beginning, we were impressed with Mrs. Pinchman's knowledge, confidence, and professionalism.

As we learned over a two-month period, the qualification and application is a complex, slow-moving, bureaucratic process. We needed Mr. Ratner and Ms. Pinchmans assistance again when my mother fell and was moved into a care facility. Her Medicare benefits ran out and Mr. Ratner and Ms. Pinchman got Mom Medi-Cal coverage. Also at that time they created a trust that protected mom and dad’s home.

They assisted with all the legal issues associated with assigning me as the Durable Power of Attorney (DPA) for both my parents which allowed me to make all medical and financial decisions on their behalf.

A short time ago, mom passed. Mr. Ratner and Ms. Pinchman were again used to help with all the legal issues and documents that were required.

Every time I have used the services of Mr. Ratner and Ms. Pinchman, they promptly responded to all my phone calls and emails, even on weekends. When I arrived in Steve's office, I was exhausted from all of the responsibilities that had been heaped on me. After speaking to Steven Ratner in Feb. 2012, I asked him to help and represent me in obtaining Medi-Cal Benefits for my husband, who had a catastrophic heart attack that left him unresponsive.
